Many years ago during a plant medicine ceremony, Mother Mary appeared to me.

She didn’t look anything like how she is usually portrayed in paintings and statues, that meek woman with eyes downcast.
In my vision she didn’t look meek, timid or well-behaved! She was so NOT vanilla.
Firstly, her hair wasn’t covered, it was blowing wild in the wind.
She was vibrant, and loving for sure, but also strong.
Her gaze was one of strength – strong, supportive love.
Since then I have always been on the lookout for an artistic representation of her as she appeared to me then, but have found none. I have so longed to rediscover my deep buried artistic side (I gave up art in matric).
It has been so frustrating because I wanted to capture THIS Mother Mary, I could see her so clearly in my mind’s eye. I wished that I could draw or paint, anything just to bring that vision to life. To have a physical representation of her – in all her glory as I had witnessed.
I wanted a physical reminder of her as she had come to me. As a potent reminder that a woman has many facets to her, that the feminine has many faces and it’s not just this one side that you always see portrayed.
We ALL have all the sides to us.
This past weekend I was so very privileged to get to do just that.
Put my vision down on paper. Physically manifest what I had seen in a vision.
Very serendipitous events led me there…
The weekend before I had ventured to see The Big Pineapple in Bathurst, Eastern Cape.
After viewing it I went for a little wander. I saw what I thought was a coffee shop or café. I went in and noticed artwork all around. On an easel there was a picture of Frida Kahlo.
I asked the woman there if she had painted it, and she said yes and this started us off on a beautiful conversation. One of those that feel like you have known somebody for years, not just met.
She is a wonderful artist and human named Cornelia Beer, and her The Art Café in Bathurst is a place where you casually come in to sit down and be creative. There are a variety of mediums available to work with. Cornelia prepares your chosen outline for you and then guides and assists you as you go – with cheerleading on the side – to make that piece of art for fun, or that you have been longing to create (as in my case).
What an amazing day! She was so patient, kind, inspiring, funny and always positive about everyone’s creations.
At the end of the day, I came away with my Mother Mary.
I am so thrilled with this piece. She is glorious.
Just looking into her eyes I can feel that same energy of when she gifted me with darshan in the plant ceremony all those years ago.
It’s just powerful. She holds that same beautiful energy. I feel the blessings and the love.
It is pure.
It is strong.
It is wild.
It is a ridiculously strong potent current of pure untainted love.
I did say a prayer to Mother Mary before I started. I said ‘This is our project, so please guide me today to be able to do this right. To portray you in the way that I saw you.’
I am really pleased with it, it’s the first time that I have ever worked with gouache.
I was expecting to make something average, but with Cornelia’s guidance it just came out so beautiful and I’m just so thrilled with her.
I feel like I have really done Mother Mary proud in being able to portray her as the kickass Goddess that she really is.
She is now going to be joining in my Red Tents, residing on the centre alter. As a portrayal of the Mother, the Goddess, the Divine Feminine…all those things. As well as a Wild, and Perfectly flawed woman, as we all are.
As I am typing this, Mother Mary is watching me – with those eyes filled with love, and that wise, knowing smile.
I am just in deep gratitude for this day where I was able to experience channelling creativity, making art and also being deeply in touch with the Mother and the Divine Feminine and Love, her unconditional Love.
Also, that I got to collaborate on this (because Cornelia helped me with the parts that I couldn’t manage). Thus it was such a beautiful collaboration, which is what the Divine Feminine is all about. Collaboration and working together.
I am just so appreciative of her and all that she did to help me bring this vision to life. As soon as I had explained it to her, she picked up on my vision and she made it happen for me.
Thank you – so much love to Cornelia and Mother Mary – to the Goddess in ALL her forms.
